Directions to Old Monterey from San Jose or the San Francisco Bay Area:

Take Hwy 101 South
At Prunedale, take Hwy 156 West (the sign says "To Monterey Peninsula")
After 11 miles, Hwy 156 becomes Hwy 1 Southbound
Follow Hwy 1 South and take the Downtown Monterey exit.
Proceed straight from the exit. This is Fremont Street.
Follow Fremont Street into Monterey, past the Casa Munras Garden Hotel. You are now on Munras Avenue.
Follow Munras past Safeway (on your left). Ordway Pharmacy will be up ahead on your right. This is the beginning of Alvarado Street, the main street in historic Old Monterey.

Directions to Old Monterey from Southern California:

Take Hwy 101 North to Hwy 68 West.
Take Hwy 68 until it merges with Hwy 1 South.
Stay in right-hand lanes and take the Downtown Monterey exit.
Proceed straight from the exit. This is Fremont Street.
Follow Fremont Street into Monterey, past the Casa Munras Garden Hotel. You are now on Munras Avenue.
