MONTEREY MUSEUM OF ART

Civic Center





The Monterey Museum of Art has been called "the best small town museum in the United States." Seeking to enrich and educate through the arts, the exhibitions concentrate on the rich artistic heritage of this region.

The museum's permanent collection includes California art, photography, Asian art, international folk art, and features significant bodies of work by Armin Hansen, William Ritschel, Ansel Adams and Edward Weston.

Located across from Colton Hall in the historic center of Monterey, the museum includes seven galleries, as well as an education center and library.

Hours: Wed. - Sat., 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Sundays, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Open until 8:00 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month.
Museum Store: Open during operating hours.

$5 non-member admission is good for both museums

720 Via Mirada, off Fremont across from Lake El Estero)

Maritime Museum of  Monterey


The Maritime Museum of Monterey evokes the spirit of the explorers, conquerors and fishermen whose courage shaped Monterey's and this nation's nistory. Located on Monterey's waterfront in the 18,000-square-front Stanton Center, the museum explores the region's maritime heritage, from the Ohlone Indians and Spanish conquistadors to Monterey's era as the Sardine Capital of the World.

Hours: Memorial Day - Labor Day, Open Daily, 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Labor Day - Memorial Day, Open Daily except Mondays, 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Years Day

Admission: Adults, $5.00
Youth, Military and Seniors: $2.50
Children, 12 and under, are free.
Annual Memberships, $45/Single; $60/Family
